A sad end to a great Art Car Parade weekend... Tom Jones, the Art Car Museum curator, was killed by a drunk driver only hours after the Art Car Parade early this morning (Sunday, May 11th) in front of the Museum. Tom was a fixture in the Art Car community and Houston art scene at large and had been with the Houston Art Car Museum for 25 years. You can watch an interview with......

When Houstonist was little, this video freaked us out. Not sure if it was the punked-out middle school girl, the suit-clad men with chainsaws, or the multiple instruments being destroyed. It's weirdness is what made the Art of Noise's "Close (To the Edit)" extraordinary back in 1984. Many people (including us) didn't know that the band Art of Noise was created by record producer Trevor Horn and music journalist Paul Morley. Horn is best......

Whoooaaawhoaaooohoooh! It's not unusual to dig Tom Jones! We digress. Cat people of Houston, aficionados, fanciers, breeders and cat lovers in general, there is a cat show here, on the green, green astroturf grass of home. Now, we don't think you will actually see Tom Jones (rats! Maybe this handsome orange devil on the right will perform?), but, actual cats will abound and will be judged by breed and for best overall. The 55th Annual......

It looks like it's wildlife week here at Houstonist, what with the feral hogs and the wandering longhorn — and now there's a 10-foot python. Tom Jones and his sons didn't expect to catch a snake when they went fishing near Savoy Road and Highway 90 in Sugar Land. But they sure did: "I reached back and felt something tap my elbow. I looked and this was what was behind me," Jones told KPRC Local......

We admit it, when we’re bored, Houstonist loves to browse the classifieds on Craigslist. It reminds us of our younger years, browsing through Greensheet to see what useless crap people were selling. However, we are surprised at some of the things that Houstonians consider “collectibles.” Here’s a few items that can be yours with a click of the mouse: Texas pride: Miller Lite Texas-shaped neon sign ($200), UT 2005 Champs Bud Light neon sign ($300),......

Wednesday Mary Gauthier released her critically-acclaimed CD Mercy Now last year, and if you’ve heard it, you know how wonderfully dark and personal it is. The forty-something Louisiana native brings her haunting whiskey-ridden voice to the Duck tonight. When you hear her sing “I Drink,” it will sober you up quick. 7:30 p.m. at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck | info Thursday Colorado’s Big Head Todd & the Monsters are still touring on their 2004 CD......
