Yesterday was the second of the Super Tuesdays for this Presidential Election year and included primary elections in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont. Houstonist could careless about who wins. We're just excited to see the record turnout at the polls. We all win when that happens. Congratulations, Houston, and all you Texans that don't live in our kickass town. According to Wikipedia - stop laughing - Super Tuesday...refers to the Tuesday in February......

From local Houston headlines, we bring you these weekend news bits... • A bicyclist is in serious condition after being struck and dragged by MetroRail in the Medical Center. The bicyclist was wearing headphones and riiding between platforms. The incident occurred Friday afternoon around 4:45pm. • A car crashed into the State Grille on Alabama after losing control of the vehicle and jumping a curb. Tomorrow night, you should check out local favorites The Mathletes last show of the year (already?). They headline the line-up at The Proletariat. Another local favorite, Orange Is In, hits Rudyard’s Saturday night. Tuesday night sees the arrival of the Foo Fighters at the Toyota Center. If that venue is a little too big for you, check out actor/singer/songwriter Jeff Daniels at the Mucky Duck the same night. Did we miss something? Let us......

We all have that one friend who is just 100% too cool to shop at just any boring Land O' Retail - and that's where hip little spots like Sucker Punch Clothing (2609 Dunlavy) come into play. Tucked away in a tiny corner shop next to Raye (and across the street from Brasil's), Sucker Punch does indeed serve up a feisty fist to your average retail experience. Run by a crew of artists, DJs......

If you fancy some Japanese rock, check out Fantasys Core tonight at Walter’s on Washington (our own Motion Turns It On opens). It’s been ten years since Shawn Mullins' “Lullaby” was a big hit. Mullins sound is more on the Americana/folk side these days, and you can hear for yourself tomorrow night at the Mucky Duck. Friday night, Warehouse Live has an eclectic mix of local music, including one of our favorites, Two Star......

The revamping of the Astros roster is starting to look more and more like an episode of Extreme Makeover. Today, the Astros announced that they've reached an agreement with the Baltimore Orioles for former MVP shortstop Miguel Tejada in exchange for (deep breath): Luke Scott, Matt Albers, Troy Patton, Dennis Sarfate, and Lou Costanzo. Patton, Sarfate, and Albers are all young pitchers with some major league experience; Patton was the Astros' most experienced and highest-rated......

December always brings some good mini-festivals, and this week is a good example. It starts tonight with the KILT 10-Man Jam, featuring many popular country radio stars. Tomorrow night, the husband/wife team of Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis come into town for their annual Christmas show. Saturday, Chron.com showcases some of the best local talent in their concert at Warehouse Live. Finally, KRBE's annual Jingle Jam brings pop radio's favorite to the Toyota Center......

Since our first cool blast of December has rolled into town, we're even getting into the over-commercialized holiday mode. So, we thought we would share with you some of our favorite Christmas and holiday songs, both past and present, with you. Throw out the $5.99 CD compilation you bought at Wal-Mart -- this is all you need. The standards (Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Elvis) and more modern-day standards (John Lennon) are here. The 80's......

::Official Houston Launch of Skirt! Magazine:: A few skirt-y things have come outta Houston in the last few months, and we are thrilled our lovely ladies are making their mark in Houston business. First, Houstonian and hilarious blogger, Laura Mayes, co-founds sk*rt, a social media ranking site that caters to the female persuasion (think Digg, but for chicks). And not to be confused with that sk*rt, this last month launched the Houston market of Skirt!......

Kickers are lame. When kids play pickup football games, no one gets chosen first because they can split the uprights with a perfect field goal. Plus, they're only on the field about ten plays a game, if that. But tonight, Kris Brown is the toast of the town after leading the Texans to a nail-biter win over the Miami Dolphins at Reliant Stadium today. After suffering a heel injury on his non-kicking foot on the......

Scotland's Ireland's Snow Patrol really made it big last year in America with their smash "Chasing Cars." However, our favorite song of theirs hails from their 2003 major label debut album Final Straw, "Chocolate." (That album also spunned their first minor hit "Run.) We've always liked the songs simple lyrics, great melody, and meaning (a song about new beginnings, as far as we knew). But after recently discovering the video, new light has been......

When we saw that KTRK had done a Crime Tracker report on Houston movie theaters, our first thought was "Tinseltown Westchase." And it turns out we weren't too far off: the Tinseltown theater located at 3300 West Sam Houston Parkway saw the most violent crime last year, including one rape and five robberies. However, the AMC Studio 30 at 2949 Dunvale reported the most crime overall, but none of them were violent. Infractions included possession......

Here are some upcoming shows that were recently announced: Norah Jones – 6/12 @ Jones Hall Dave Matthews Band/Robert Earl Keen – 9/21 @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion The highlight of the week has to be indie-band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's show Thursday night at Warehouse Live. However, some of the graying crowd may prefer the combo of Chicago and Kool & the Gang in The Woodlands on Friday (and we wonder how......

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Looking back, Samuel Taylor Coleridge's 18th century poem may have been a bit progressive. As the world rallies around water preservation this month, Houston is doing our part, to make sure our H20 stays safe. Starting tomorrow (Friday) morning, the Dow Chemical Company, in partnership with the Blue Planet Run Foundation are sponsoring a 36-hour, 240-mile, overnight relay event around the Houston area to help raise......

Houstonist will be taking Thanksgiving off, but that doesn't mean you should. There are plenty of places all over the city that need volunteers to do everything from deliver meals to carry balloons this week. Here are just a few: TXU Energy is sponsoring a 5K Fun Run that benefits Sheltering Arms, an agency that provides a wide array of services for the elderly. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, set-up, water stations, etc.......

If we told you that the Texans would win a nail-biter over the Dolphins 17-15, would sack Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper 5 times, and Mario Williams would get 1.5 of those 5 sacks, would that be something you might be interested in? Well, if the crowd at Reliant Stadium is any indication, Houston Texans fans' interest is at an all-time high. With the win over the Dolphins, the Texans get their first taste of victory......

At Houstonist, we're always on the lookout for ways to stick it to the man — and today, we're happy to bring you one: Run a red light at a camera-controlled intersection by turning right or left. Even though it's an illegal turn, you won't get ticketed thanks to a loophole in the law governing Houston's new red-light camera system. Man, consider yourself stuck. The Chronicle reports today that, of more than 1,000 red-light violations......

We're always in the mood for a little Astros nostalgia, and here's some courtesy of a vintage TV commercial from Channel 20 — remember when it was called Channel 20? We date this ad to 1985, when Reds player-manager Pete Rose was "inches away" from breaking Ty Cobb's hitting record (which he did on Sept. 11, 1985). Just thinking about those days — the bad hair, the rainbow uniforms, the Home Run Spectacular —......

Not everyone loves Houston's Safe Clear program, but it's hard to argue with the results: less accidents, less traffic, less rubbernecking. Now we're told that this program may be expanded to include wreckers. Awesome! But is Mayor White selling himself short? Could this not be expanded to other areas of the city. Below, the -ist list for other Safe Clear uses: 1. The Grocery Store - Everyone has been caught behind the person in the......

It's rodeo time again — the one weekend in the year when we can gorge ourselves on barbecue and beer, then head across the Astrodome parking lot for a spin on the Tilt-a-Whirl. (Wait, the one weekend? We take that back — that's pretty much a weekly activity for Houstonist.) So here's what's happening this weekend at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo: Thursday • World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest: 5 to 11 p.m. at Reliant......

This interview comes to us courtesy of Austinist Co-Editor Matthew Odam. As you are probably aware, Longhorn football great and friend of Austinist Major Applewhite recently moved back to Texas to take over as the Offensive Coordinator for the Rice University Owls. He has been busting his tail recruiting and helping to put in place a new offense that coaches hope will make Rice a very competitive team in the upcoming years. With national signing......

Houstonist knows how hard it can be to keep some of those well-meaning, but slightly impossible, New Year's resolutions (like losing 35 pounds or reading War and Peace), so we've drafted some ways our fair city can help you reach your goals. Lose weight: So we were the fattest city in 2005. That doesn't mean you can't take advantage of our unseasonably warm weather and hit the parks to walk off your waistline. Eat healthier:......

To quote Donny & Marie, Houstonist is a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n' roll (and electronic, and rock opera). On tap for you this week: Thursday Honeybrowne has been gaining popularity over the past couple of years, and this trend will continue with the recent release of their new Mark Addison (Bob Schneider) produced CD Something To Believe In. Their sound is polished country-rock, perfect for commercial radio — if......
