We really wish Gomez was performing a headlining show here, but we have to settle with them just being an opening act for The Fray (along with Eisley) this Friday night in The Woodlands. However, Gomez is playing a stand-alone show Saturday night in Austin, if you're lucky enough to find tickets for it. Some veteran Houston acts play around town this week. Beaumont's Clay Walker will perform after the races at Sam Houston......

Out of curiosity, have you tried to book a hotel anywhere in Houston this week? Checked out the prices? Wondered why all rooms have gone up by a hundred dollars or so? If you don't know what we're getting on about, then you probably don't work in the energy industry, and you probably don't know that the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) is going on this week. The convention is currently taking up the entire......

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to feature Food & Wine Extravaganza at Astrodome As Rodeo season approaches, and Houstonist pulls out our stiffest Stetsons, rugged Justin boots and tightest Wranglers, we look forward to an event that doesn't require carefully avoiding cow patties. And we're not talking burgers. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo international wine and food tasting extravaganza, Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition, is back for 2007 and is set......

Harris County Commissioners Court gave the go-ahead for a private firm's proposal to redevelop the Astrodome as a mega-hotel, saying the 41-year-old stadium will no longer be a part of the county's disaster shelter plans. During future emergencies, other facilities, including the George R. Brown Convention Center and Reliant Center, will be the region's primary shelters, Harris County Judge Robert Eckels said. The Dome "is too expensive to maintain as a potential shelter space that......

The Astrodome has been home to many things. It bore witness to the highs and lows of the Oilers and Astros. It has been credited with helping to change the face of men's college basketball and March Madness. People roped dogies, jumped over cars on motorcycles, cheered on Ronald Reagan and promised to kick things in on the floor of the Eighth Wonder of the World. More recently, it has sheltered evacuees during Hurricane Katrina......

Though Houstonist doesn't really know much about cars, we get excited every winter when the Houston Auto Show opens — we'd much rather climb around the new-model cards at Reliant Center than pretend we're going to buy one so we can test drive it at the dealership. This year's auto show features some well-hyped, but ultimately boring, firsts, including the unveiling of the 2007 Ford Expedition (which is even bigger than last year's!). The......
