Break out the beads and the bands! The official Mardi Gras season in Galveston -- which dates all the way back to 1867 -- kicks off tomorrow, February 13th, and runs through February 24th.

Several parades celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will roll through the Houston area. Galveston is still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Ike, but organizers plan to fete Dr. King none the less. The parade is being scaled-back somewhat to a march. The Unity March will be held Saturday at Noon on the island.
