After a week off for prayer and fasting in the hope that Roger Clemens would finally appear in the media again, our supplications were heard and we feel up to posting this roundup again. For those of you who are new around these parts, this is where we take a look at what the blogs and other media are saying about our hometown sports teams each week. - On the heels (rimshot) of Yao Ming's......

Houstonist has an addiction, besides bacon cheeseburgers, fried justaboutanything and gravy, and it is that pay-television station with all the food and the cooking that we found on our cable/satellite subscription. Our life would be ever so empty without it. We burrow in our bed, under the covers, with our hot coffee, on Saturday mornings and watch it for hours and hours- just wasting away a whole bunch of perfectly good daylight. Perhaps we should take......

The Super Bowl is on Sunday, and naturally we'll be watching the game (and the commericals), but the real news around town is the up-and-down season the Rockets are having. They win with T-Mac, they win without T-mac, they definitely lose without Yao. If Rick Adelman can get everyone on the same page, they could still be formidable in the playoffs. Otherwise, we're looking at another five-and-out in the first round. On to the links: -......

We've met enough of you to be able to pick out the Red Bull junkies amongst you - the 1000 word a minute conversation rate, your magical abilities to stay up for 5 days straight and the telltale clinking of discarded aluminum after fast braking in traffic... But now you can put all that Red Bull consumption to good use by entering in the Red Bull Art of Can contest in Houston. The idea is......

This looks to be the last big release week of the year, and 2007 is going out with a bang. We'll see you in '08! The Cool is Lupe Fiasco's follow-up album to last year's fantastic Food and Liquor. The record is filled with clever and forward-thinking tracks like “Dumb it Down” that manage succeed on both an underground and commercial level, and features noteworthy contributions from Snoop Dogg, UNKLE, newcomer Matthew Santos, and Food......

Okay, okay - this is a no-bake, not from a "box", as creative as you want to be, addition to your holiday party, goody swap or gift. After all, it's not about buying up all the gift cards at the convenience store on the corner - it's the thought that really counts. Also, these are great additions to little treat bag/thank you gifts for your holiday guests. What is it? Chocolate Bark creations!!! Very......

Steveland Hardaway Judkins is in town tonight. Why aren't you excited? Wait, you might know him by his stage name: Stevie Wonder. That's right, the R&B/pop master graces the stage of the Toyota Center as part of the final leg of his current tour. In fact, we expect to hear a minimum of two Stevie Wonder tracks at every wedding party we attend, and not just because we actually request that the DJ squeeze it......

The Dynamo are in a quandry. On the heels of winning their second consecutive MLS Cup, they're at the center of a dispute with the MLS. The Orange are owned by AEG, an entertainment conglomerate owned by Phil Anschutz. AEG used to own close to half of the teams in MLS, but are now down to just our all-conquering hometown boys, and the pretty boy-signing LA Galaxy. The MLS is ready for AEG to shed......

At Chuck E Cheese, a kid can be a kid. Not so, however, in Harris County, where we prosecute more teens as adults than do four other heavily populated Texas counties....combined. Judges and prosecutors think we can expect the number of teens in prison to increase in the coming years as well, since recent sex scandals at the Texas Youth Commission (the juvenile hall end of the law) have led to a new rule where......

That old green-tiled building in the Village We witnessed the operose demolition of the office building sitting in the way of Randall Davis' new Californian baby Sonoma this week. The green tile (possibly chosen by Lars Bang and Lucian Hood) was flying with a handful of onlookers - don't worry, though - Davis' stylish Mediterraneuscan masterpiece will break ground after the rest of the area is demolished and the street is closed. Speaking of oper...as......

Kickers are lame. When kids play pickup football games, no one gets chosen first because they can split the uprights with a perfect field goal. Plus, they're only on the field about ten plays a game, if that. But tonight, Kris Brown is the toast of the town after leading the Texans to a nail-biter win over the Miami Dolphins at Reliant Stadium today. After suffering a heel injury on his non-kicking foot on the......

Ever since Inversion Coffee House opened its doors this past March fans have been raving about the artsy space, local coffee, and great Houston vibe. Though it may seem like Starbucks is taking over the world (and saving the world), this local dig is a breath of fresh air. Loyal patrons have been screaming for expansion since March. The people have spoken and owner Michael Terrazas has listened. Houstonist has learned that Inversion will be......

The latest in urban plight: copper theft. HPD Captain Caesar Moore, who oversees the burglary and theft division, told KUHF that they see about 250 metal-related thefts a month. Oftentimes, the copper is stolen from air conditioning units at churches, and Moore explained how this typically goes down: Usually it's drug related. They'll steal an air conditioning unit, the metal out of it and they may get $40 up to $80 for the copper parts......

Good morning, Houston. Seems like everyone's listening to iPods these days, eh? And even if you don't have one of the near-ubiquitous mp3 players, all might not be peace and quiet: As the AP notes, iPod-related noise pollution is a growing problem. It can happen in several ways, including people who turn their iPods up to top volume and others who sing along with the music in their heads. Bbut there are ways to......

Houstonist likes to booze - did it last night. Who knew that Vodka & Soda was so great in a gross way? A few V&S later and we were embroiled with our peers in a heated discussion about what constitutes the best cocktail ever. We nailed it with HS Party Punch, but defending it and drinking it makes our head hurt. Given that Lazy Bastard Friday is here again today (last Friday in every......

Not too long after having a minor heart attack, Frank Piazza drove down Bissonett to eat some healthy food at Cleburne's, heeding the advice of the cardiologist who fixed him up. On his way there, at the intersection of Wakeforest, he eyed an available corner suite in a strip center that used to house a Philly Cheesesteak Connection. The space, with its prominent location, long profile, and spacious windows, immediately caught Frank's eye. Already......

So it's been nearly two years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans — and, according to the AP, about 5,500 heads of evacuee households in Houston are still unemployed. It's not that there aren't jobs available (city officials say there are 2 million job openings, 59,000 of which don't require a college education) or that the government isn't helping (the city has spent $1.9 million since the fall offering free résumé help, business clothing, job......

Texas Senator John Cornyn announced yesterday at the Harris County Courthouse that he has a bill in the works that would prevent incarcerated felons from making a profit of their personal belongings or art - "murderabilia," if you will. The bill is championed by victims' rights organizations, but the constitutionality of such a law is questionable. Houston victims' rights advocate and director of the Mayor's Crime Victims Office Andy Kahan has been fighting the sale......

Need to know just a little bit about something? Ask a dilettante. I have to go to a wedding shower this week. It’s the second one this month (two different couples), and in addition to the shower gifts, I'll bring another present to each wedding. Saturday marks the "piece de resistance" of Art Car Weekend - The Art Car Parade! Good morning, Houston. If anyone out there's looking for a show idea to pitch to MTV, may we suggest The Real World: Monsatery? Based on the statements of Hugh Brian Fallon, a monk from Blanco, The Christ of the Hills monastery would fit right in with the Real World drama: Fallon told authorities that fellow monk Samuel Greene encouraged sex among the monks, offered people marijuana when they were having problems and faked tears......

Houstonist is gearing up, with Spring. It is time to grill, and we adore cooking out. So, when you want to fire up the grill, and you are tired of the usual chicken and steaks, try some pork loin. This is one of our favorite things to do. We kinda "came up with this" with what we had in the fridge a couple of years ago, and liked it so much, we do it often.......
