We don't know about you, but when we have out-of-state guests crash on our couch, two primary questions are always posed to us. Save the bricks! While we have seen a lot of wasteful demolition over the past two weeks, we're happy to report that more and more parts of houses are being salvaged (and hopefully reused/recycled) - this week 5550 Candlewood in Briargrove (picture), 741 Rocky River in Tanglewood (picture), and 1314 South Blvd. in historic Broadacres (pictured) were stripped down and paletted up. 741 Rocky River is just down the street from the Ralph Anderson, Jr.......

Here are a few books Houstonist thinks your friends and family won't use for doorstops (that's the fruitcake, right?). Everyone likes a good read, or at least a smart-looking book to sit on the nightstand. Give these a try. And shop at your local independent bookstore -- they can give you even more recommendations, and probably a good cup of coffee as well. Fun, mostly fiction books for people who are... If you remember the last time we featured a house in Shelterporn — longer ago than it should have been, we know — you'll remember that we have a thing for modern houses.
