Hello, gentle reader. We just wanted to remind you that you should plan to take the bus into downtown tomorrow in preparation to cab it home after our 2nd Annual Light Rail Pub Crawl. Our evening of casual adventure will open at 5:30 in the PM at Flying Saucer. Our friends there have reserved us some space so we'll be easy to spot. Feel free to stop by and say hi even if you......

It's a leap year, people, so hop on the rail and enjoy some cocktails with us. That's right; it's baaaack. Last year's Light Rail Pub Crawl was such a success that we're doing it again. What's not to love about riding the rail with 60+ folks you've never met before and having them follow you around all night? Houstonist 2nd Annual Light Rail Pub Crawl Friday, February 29th @ 5:30 PM Rally Point: Flying......

Yo, Houston - the only thing better than pie? Why 24 hour a day pie - for that 2:30 a.m., we can't sleep unless I get we get us some French Silk, pronto - thing! Well, perhaps that's just us. You can even get a sugar-free pie made with Nutra-Sweet (insert Boudreaux joke here), a Bayou Goo, Lemon Ice Box, Sweet Potato and a fine assortment of cakes and cheesecakes. Where? Why where else? The......

For about 40 years, Houstonians have known where buy the best pies. Founded in 1967 The Flying Saucer Pie Company has been baking up a wide variety of pies daily, using the freshest available ingredients. Other than HoustonistMama, who is getting tired of baking for us, these are the bestest pies ever. We are partial to their line of cream pies! Whether you are ordering your meal pre-cooked, or popping your turkey or turducken in......

Last week the AIA hosted their annual home tour, and tomorrow the Downtown Houston Alliance is giving folks a chance to see residences in some of Houston's most historic and moneyed buildings. The Live Downtown Home Tour is from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, November 3rd. Stops on the tour include Commerce Towers, The Beaconsfield (not the Savoy across the street!), the Four Seasons, Hogg Palace (no, not this place), and several other loft properties.......

It's a special edition of the Houstonist Flickr Photo of the Day. These photos are from our Light Rail Pub Crawl. Did you make it out? If so, you might be in one of these shots. If not, check out the photos to see what you missed. We had a great time Friday night. Our host and Houstonist staff member, Jason Bargas, took us to places along the MetroRail line. We stopped at The Flying......

Thanks for your responses to the upcoming pub crawl. Lots of you are on the hook and are ready to raise a glass and grab some schwag. But, a few of you have emailed or commented saying that you can't make it to the launch from Flying Saucer. You've been asking, "What's the next bar?" or "What's the route?" We ain't spillin' it. We were planning to use a flare gun to guide the group......

Happy V.D., kids. We want you to know that we too are sick of hearing about Lurlene's bouquet of Tasmanian orchids. And, yes, we've already puked in the lobby ficus after some jackass in the elevator broadcast the fact that his vapid squeeze du jour, SaNdi (with a heart dot), ventured out in her Hummer to combat the sub-40 degree weather and bring him a half-caff-double-extra-fat super-no-balls cup of mango scented chai crap after......

OK, so it wasn't just us. Apparently, all the beer related events over the past few weeks were not just a coincidence. Thanks to Houstonist contributor and scourer of all things culinary Mary Jane for bringing to our attention that indeed today is "Beer Can Appreciation Day," celebrating that great day in 1937 when beer was first sold in cans. Who knew? (apparently, Mary Jane. Duh.) We are ecstatic to notify you with at least......

Is it just us? Or have there been an unusual amount of beer events in the city lately? From beer on a house to beer for dinner, and even....building houses for beer? But who are we to buck the system? If you can't beat 'em..... Our favorite downtown beer emporium, Flying Saucer, hosts a beer tasting tonight as part of it's U.F.O club, Beerknurds. Special guest speaker will be Todd Usry, Brewmaster of Breckenridge......

Each week, Houstonist scours the city to bring you the best events happening right under your nose. Don't worry, you can thank us later. (Or now). Be sure to check back each day for updated events and the Daily -ist List. Just do what we tell you. It's easier that way. Monday, Jan 22 Houston Calling Happy Hour Showcase: rescheduled from last week Featuring Arthur Yoria, Mansion, and Blades The Proletariat 7-10pm Tuesday, Jan......

It was a bad, bad week in Missed Connections with Houstonians being hit left and right by inconsiderate (and sometimes thieving) passersby. What's with the bad karma? Are we beginning to take out our stress and aggression over the busy holidays on each other? What's with the hate? Let's try to make it through New Year's, shall we? I am really sad I missed you... when you decided to tip over my scooter. Yeah,......

We're just a little over two months away from Election Day 2006. (It’s on Nov. 7), which means we can expect to see a lot more of the candidates in the next few weeks. Today, independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Kinky Friedman hits town in the midst of his college tour — he's making a stop today at the University of Houston, and then tonight, you can catch him at the Flying Saucer downtown. Nothing......
