Well, good news from the Texans, Cougars, and Dynamo camps. All three were winners this weekend. But there was a lot more going on in the Houston sports universe this week. Let's take a look at what people were saying: - Chronicle columnist Jose de Jesus Ortiz got called out for misdiagnosing the Astros offseason needs, and the commenter used complete sentences and no profanity. Intelligent comments on a sports blog (other than this one,......

Houston vs. Dallas. Does anything else need to be said? Robertson Stadium, which is located on the campus of the University of Houston, will be hosting two different versions of this great Texas rivalry. Tonight, the 2006 MLS Champion Houston Dynamo will take on FC Dallas in the second game of this home-and-home Western Conference semi-final playoff game. In the first game, which FC Dallas hosted, the Hoops took game 1 of this aggregate-scoring......

The Dynamo's playoff run in defense of their MLS championship begins 7pm on Saturday against FC Dallas in Dallas, and while the Texans flounder and the Rockets are just getting warmed up, the Dynamo stand as Houston's last best chance for a successful team this year. The Orange start the playoffs as the second seed in the Western Conference, behind Chivas USA, but still one of the favorites for the MLS Cup. Now that......

With baseball season firmly packed into the history books, at least as far as the Astros and the rest of the NL Central are concerned (hi Cubs fans!), and basketball season around the corner, there's plenty of blog fodder out there this week. Here's what bloggers are saying about our sports teams: - The Rockets are hemorrhaging point guards. Even though the word on the street is that Rafer Alston is on the trading block,......

Well, at least some new Mike Jones music came out this week. In spite of his oft-delayed second album, Adidas, MLS, and Jones teamed up to create an anthem for the Dynamo, entitled Houston Dynamo (Don't Play). The song is part of the "MLS Represent" album, which matches all 13 MLS teams with a local band or artist to create a fight song for the team. You can find the song here: you'll have to......

As part of a way to get some international exposure (and perhaps credibility), the MLS has introduced the North American SuperLiga Tournament this year. This is a competition between 4 MLS teams and 4 teams in Mexico’s Primera División. The 4 MLS teams were selected by invitation this year, but in the future tournaments they will be selected based on the top 4 teams during regular season play. The Houston Dynamo, along with DC United......

Okay not really…except kind of…well, yes. Let’s explain. So as you know 4 Houston Dynamo players are out due to national team play in the CONCACAF gold cup. Pat Onstad and Dwayne De Rosario are playing for Canada while Brian Ching and Ricardo Clark are playing for the U.S. team. Both teams have advanced to the semi-finals and are set to play each other tonight at 6pm. This should be an excellent match as both......

Astros trying fail to stand on rockie ground There is no denying that the Astro’s have hit (what we hope is) their low this season. On Tuesday, both Lance Berkman and manager Phil Garner were ejected from the game after Carlos Lee was intentionally appeared to be hit by a pitch from the Colorado Rockies Manuel Corpas. Luckily the Astros managed a 2 run ninth inning rally to win that game and end a......

Our beloved football soccer club, the Dynamo, are in a bit of a slump at the moment having lost 5 out of their last 6 games (remind you of anyone?). However this isn’t getting in the way of the Dynamo reaching out to the community. Starting this Sunday the Dynamo will be participating in the US Soccer Passback program. This is a grassroots campaign intended to provide new & gently used soccer equipment to......

Things are going well for Houston’s newest major league sports team. The Houston Dynamo, a part of MLS, won their last game 4-3 over FC Dallas. And then Brian Ching, a forward for the team, was named the MLS Player or the Month. And today, Ching joins the US national team in Cary, N.C., for training camp to get ready for the FIFA World Cup that happens once every four years. The 2006 edition is......

Remember how a naming contest is supposedly planned for Houston's MLS franchise? Well, have a look at this: The attached photo was allegedly snapped at MLS headquarters by a bike messenger and then released on a popular message board for American soccer fans. If it's not a hoax it appears the club will be named Houston Republic F.C. with orange/gold, light blue, white and black as part of the club's new colors. The '1836' in......

It's official — Houston has a new major-league sports team. Major League Soccer announced Thursday that the San Jose Earthquakes will be relocating to the Bayou City immediately, less than four months before the beginning of the 2006 MLS season. Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the team, said Houston's ethnic diversity, size and sports mania made it the right choice for the move. There are still a lot of details to work out, like......
