Houstonist headed out early this morning to the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark to check out the PUSH Novice Skateboard Workshop. There were over 70 kids in attendance who all showed up to learn how to skate and pick up tips from seasoned veterans who were the instructors for the morning. Some of the instructors included Barry Blumenthal, David Sosa, Mike Niemann, Charlie Urquhart, Brandon Brookshire and several others who have all been pictured on......

Houstonist braved the scorching heat and throngs of people at the opening of the Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark near downtown Houston on Sunday to bring you these photos. The masses waited outside the facility until the ribbon was cut allowing the crowd to flow into the park. There were kids, teenagers, parents, curious onlookers, videographers and photographers all packed like sardines in this brand new, 30,000 square foot, concrete encrusted facility. The sun reflected......

Saturday marks the "piece de resistance" of Art Car Weekend - The Art Car Parade! Houstonist is singing "I Love a Parade" in our very best Ethel Merman voice in celebration of this event (normally, we stick to "There's No Business Like Show Business"). The world's largest and oldest parade of its kind makes its way into downtown on Allen Parkway for the 20th year to an anticipated crowd of over 200,000 people. This year's......

When Houstonist hears about an upcoming festival we typically think of sweaty strolls to downtown, meat on a stick and sword fights by knights in homemade armor. CityFest Houston, adds a new wrinkle to the mix when it brings "festival envangelism" to Eleanor Tinsley Park on Saturday & Sunday. Festival evangelism aims to spread the Gospel to the non-church crowd by attracting them with a mash up of music, extreme sports and bible study. Festival......

There are many ways to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow in Houston: Chevy’s Freedom Over Texas: The official Houston July 4th Celebration is at Eleanor Tinsley Park downtown. This year, the festivities include San Angelo's own Los Lonely Boys. They are definitely worth checking out. When we caught them a few years ago at SXSW, we thought these local boys would never make it past the Lone Star state, but thanks to the hit "Heaven,"......
