Houstonist is trying to attend all of the not-to-be-missed events around town this weekend, one of which is the Annual ArtCrawl taking place downtown this Saturday in the area formerly know as Frost Town. The event began in 1993 when community artists opened their studios to the public the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Since then the ArtCrawl has become one of Houston's most anticipated annual parties events. This year twenty-six studios throughout downtown and over......

Lucky's Pub has become the place for Houstonist’s pre and post Astros game hangout. Haven’t been there yet? Where ya’ been? Yeah, the ‘Stros may be hovering around last place in their division, but that’s no reason not to take in as many games as you can and have a good time, regardless of standings or the final score. Don’t have tickets for the game? There’s no shortage of TV’s around, including the 21 foot......

The Live Downtown Home Tour is from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, November 3rd. Stops on the tour include Commerce Towers, The Beaconsfield (not the Savoy across the street!), the Four Seasons, Hogg Palace (no, not this place), and several other loft properties.......

Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor espngo. Houstonist loves night shots, we also love long exposure shots as well as shots of downtown and with this image we get all three. Big thanks to espngo for this great shot of downtown. We'd like to remind everyone out there that if you have a flickr account and have images of Houston you'd like to share with us, please......

The consensus of people at an urban planning workshop on the Main Street corridor Monday? In short: It needs to be more urban. The Planning Partnership, a Toronto firm hired to create a development plan for Main Street, held the workshop, which was meant to get the public's input on how to guide future construction along the corridor. Because the MetroRail line is already in place and major buildings already stand along Main, planning will......

Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor j-a-x. Unless you work downtown, you just don't get to see Houston from this height. Houstonist loves new perspectives of its CBD. Such a wonderful grouping of buildings with just the right amount of sprawl in the distance and crane up front. Thanks for the view, j-a-x. If you have a passion for Houston and photography, consider joining almost 200 of......

The shot from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor j-a-x. What's that big orange thing up there? No, not Marvin Zindler... next to him. It's the sun! Boy, that's a nice change. In honor of the first sunny day in longer than we want to remember here is a great shot of the more "modern" portion of downtown as taken by j-a-x, master of light. Enjoy it becuase it's going away very soon. If......

The shot from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor *Lauren. This is a nice shot of Downtown Houston, capturing that post-sunset period where it is bright enough to see objects clearly at a distance, but you'd be better off with your headlights on. It kind of makes this shot work. A little history of the Hogan Allnoch Dry Goods buildling (the building at the bottom right), now home to a law firm, can be......

The shot from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor cybertoad. No, you're not on acid. This is real. Created by Jo Anne Fleischhauer, the Parasol Project is an art installation here in Houston. The idea is to bring a new atmosphere to Houston's historic Foley House. The Downtown Houston Alliance has the information on their website. The Houston Chronicle also has a storyabout the colorful goings on downtown. According to the Chron: "One of......

It’s nice outside today. Feels like a good day for a protest, right? Sure! They’re happening all across the country (we were tipped off by reading LAist). And sure enough, Houston is partaking in the trend. After all, we already established that we’re hip. It’s being organized by The World Can’t Wait. And if you’re “red”, this will not, we repeat, NOT be your cup of joe. However, if you’re more on the “blue”......

City Council yesterday approved a flat rate for all taxi rides within the downtown freeway loop and the creation of at least eight new taxi stands downtown, all part of an effort to make downtown more accessible to visitors, people without cars and downtown office workers. The flat rate, $6 for any trip inside the loop bounded by I-10, I-45 and Highway 59, applies no matter how many people share the cab. We fully expect......

The shot from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor Houston Filmmaker. This shot is of a confusing landmark that tells a lot about the history of theaters in Houston. This is the Majestic Metro Banquet Hall, formerly the Ritz Theatre. This shouldn't be confused with the Majestic or Metropolitan theaters that once existed in Houston. Here's the scoop on the original Majestic, one of Houston's early movie palaces: "The Majestic was John Eberson's first......

The shot from flickr user and houstonist photo contributor cybertoad. "Picture of a larger mural located on a 2-story wall of a church near Downtown Houston - it's my favorite one in the city and the colors are so vibrant. " The colors are vibrant (and rich) and the window almost doesn't appear to be real at the first glance. The church is behind a Chevrolet dealership off of Washington and Houston Street. If......
