Here are a few books Houstonist thinks your friends and family won't use for doorstops (that's the fruitcake, right?). Everyone likes a good read, or at least a smart-looking book to sit on the nightstand. Give these a try. And shop at your local independent bookstore -- they can give you even more recommendations, and probably a good cup of coffee as well. Fun, mostly fiction books for people who are... Houstonians and/or architecture......

Back in February of this year, Houstonist attended a screening of the 1983 ground-breaking documentary Style Wars, as part of the MFA's "Movies Houstonians Love" series. Monday Night Movies at Domy Books A trip to Cafe Brasil last night confirmed what we told you last week. They are getting a big honking, new kitchen. All the more room to make those yummy pizzas. The roof of our mouth is still mad at our inability to control the yumminess. We've been loving the Monday Night Movies at Domy all summer long. And we especially look forward to stopping off at Brasil before......

Monday Night Movies at Domy Books It's Monday. AGAIN. We know, right? Monday already? Yep. Shake off the Monday Blues with a free movie at our fav-o-rite bookstore, Domy Books [1709 Westheimer]. Hey, ho, let's go! Tonight's movie is the teen rebellion classic Rock 'n' Roll High School. Keeping in tune with the teen rebellion flicks of the 50s and 60s, Rock 'n' Roll High School delivers much of the same camp with a 70s......

Monday Moive Nights @ Domy Books We're loving this monday night movie series at Domy. It gives us an excuse to get out of the house on a Monday night, and a reason to watch cheesy cult classics. Free Movie Monday @ Domy Books It's no mystery that we love us some Domy Books. And not in the "we love anything that is next door to Cafe Brasil" kinda way, more like in the way we love perusing the shelves of this quirky book store and entering a world of the weird and unique. And in the fashion of the weird and unique, each Monday night Domy screens off-beat thrillers, cult classics,......

Movie Screening @ Domy Books: Suburbia Join Domy Books tonight, in association with Mike the Flea, as they present the film Suburbia, "a new movie… about a new generation." Based on her observations of teen runaways, Penelope Spheeris wrote and directed this compelling tale about Evan Johnson (Bill Coyne), who finds refuge with a band of malcontents when household conflict and a sense of worthlessness overwhelm him. Through garage hopping, fights, concerts and death, the......

This week, we told you all about the upcoming opening of the much talked about Hotel ZaZa in the Museum District. Seems like the new hotel is on everyone's radar. Including New York Magazine. This week, the popular entertainment and culture magazine's website (www.nymag.com) featured Houston as their Weekend Escape Destination, describing a stay at the "highly theatrical" Hotel ZaZa as a way to earn some street cred in the Bayou City. The article......

Ah, the (triumphant?) return of Fun for a Hamilton.
