Ruggles Green's second Art And Wine Night Party (how did we miss the first?) will be a Halloween-themed event feature work from artists Daniel Ortiz, Tra’ Slaughter and Lisa Chow. Work from the artists will be for sale, while Republic Beverage will school people on wine and Ruggles will provide hors d'oeuvres. Yum!

Houston gets a bad rap, environmentally. But the Shell Center for Sustainability (no irony there) is hoping to change that by addressing the question of how to provide clean water to the city of Houston for the next 100 years.

Art Lies is a contemporary arts quarterly journal based out of Houston. Every year, the journal pairs with The Menil to present a lecture from a notable art critic.

Yet another reading series, which apparently has been going on for a while but which Houstonist didn't know about until recently. This one is organized by the Starving Poets, and takes place every Tuesday night at Cafe 4212 in the middle of Midtown and the Third Ward. The weekly line-up looks interesting.

Instead of swinging by Disco Kroger (pun intended) why not head south to Rice University for the Tuesday night version of the Houston Farmer's Market. (That link even includes lists of the seasonal vegetables and fruits that will be available this week.)

Houstonist can't understand why all these people are shouting at one another over whether or not people should have health care. It's a complicated issue, we know, but it just seems like the yelling further complicates things. How about a nice civil conversation where everyone has a chance to say their piece?
