Daily-ist Tuesday: Art and Wine Night

Ruggles Green's second Art And Wine Night Party (how did we miss the first?) will be a Halloween-themed event feature work from artists Daniel Ortiz, Tra’ Slaughter and Lisa Chow. Work from the artists will be for sale, while Republic Beverage will school people on wine and Ruggles will provide hors d'oeuvres. Yum!

Daily-ist Tuesday: Houston Water Conference

Houston gets a bad rap, environmentally. But the Shell Center for Sustainability (no irony there) is hoping to change that by addressing the question of how to provide clean water to the city of Houston for the next 100 years.

Daily-ist Tuesday: Art Lies Lecture at the Menil

Art Lies is a contemporary arts quarterly journal based out of Houston. Every year, the journal pairs with The Menil to present a lecture from a notable art critic.

Daily-ist Tuesday: The Secret Word

Yet another reading series, which apparently has been going on for a while but which Houstonist didn't know about until recently. This one is organized by the Starving Poets, and takes place every Tuesday night at Cafe 4212 in the middle of Midtown and the Third Ward. The weekly line-up looks interesting.

Daily-ist Tuesday: Houston Farmer's Market

What's for dinner tonight? Don't know yet? Or still have groceries to pick up? Instead of swinging by Disco Kroger (pun intended) why not head south to Rice University for the Tuesday night version of the Houston Farmer's Market. (That link even includes lists of the seasonal vegetables and fruits that will be available this week.)

Daily-ist Tuesday: Town Hall meeting with Al Green

Houstonist can't understand why all these people are shouting at one another over whether or not people should have health care. It's a complicated issue, we know, but it just seems like the yelling further complicates things. How about a nice civil conversation where everyone has a chance to say their piece?

Daily-ist Tuesday: 16mm Nights

When last we met Cinema Bomar, they were screening 16 mm shorts of varying degrees of naughtiness behind Domy Books and Brazil.

Daily-ist Tuesday: Biscuit with Jam

What's this? Another regular musical jam session? Yerp. This one's at The King Biscuit every Tuesday at 8 p.m. and features Danielle Reich's Jazz Trio along with a different special guest each week. Newbies and those looking to overcome their stage fright are also welcome to join. The sesh takes place in the bar area, but you can still hear the tunes from the wide-open comfort of King Biscuit's patio.

Daily-ist Tuesday: American Festival for the Arts

Houstonist hasn't written much lately about the First Tuesdays at Methodist series, but it's an idea we love: skip rush hour by listening to a concert of classical music.

Daily-ist Tuesday: Ask Not

Don't Ask Don't Tell, the U.S. military's controversial policy regarding gays in service, has been getting a lot of press lately. First, liberals hoped (and conservatives feared) that President Barack Obama might reverse the 16-year-old law. Then it looked like the Supreme Court might try to have their say.
