Well, it's not what University of Houston basketball fans wanted, but it's the best they're going to get so they'll take it.

The Rice Owls suffered a devastating loss Monday, after freshman Dale Lloyd (a Lamar High School alum) collapsed during a light workout. Though he was conscious when taken to the hospital, Lloyd declined quickly and died around 9 AM Monday. College Football Saturdays will be a little more like Pro Football Sundays this coming season. The NCAA approved a proposal Tuesday from the Football Rules Committee allowing coaches to challenge on-field rulings. The new rule will work just like the NFL version, in that if the coach's challenge is successful, that team will not be charged a timeout.

So maybe Houston just wasn't meant to host a college bowl game. First we had the Bluebonnet Bowl, which lasted from 1959 to 1987 and eventually withered because of dropping ticket sales and the lack of a corporate sponsor. Fast-forward about 20 years, and Houston's latest foray into the college postseason — the Houston Bowl — may be about to meet the same fate.
