Good morning, Houston. Remember Mayor Bill's agreement with Clear Channel that would result in the removal of nearly 900 billboards across the city? Well, it's not necessarily a done deal after all: On Wednesday, six City Council members voted to delay the plan, saying they still had questions about its ramifications. The problem, they said, was that the deal would allow Clear Channel to move remaining billboards: "We're allowing new billboard locations to pop up, and they will pop up in disadvantaged neighborhoods," Councilwoman Anne Clutterbuck said. Most billboards in the city are scheduled to come down in 2013, deal or no deal; White said his proposal is the best hope for cleaning things up before then. Council will consider the plan again next week.

Houston's Clear Thinkers had an interesting post this week that, instead of complaining about the Astros, highlighted the consistent failure of the Royals. We're not here to...

Most are familiar with HD (high-definition) television, which will become the standard for TV over the next few years, but not everyone knows about HD radio. At the beginning of the year, Clear Channel Communications debuted HD radio for some of their local frequencies. More recently, non-profit KUHF premiered their HD frequency. The supposed draw to HD radio is CD-quality sound and more format choices. We listened to a few of these online, and discovered...

A little over a year before we get our own House of Blues downtown, word comes that the famed music venue and restaurant has been acquired by Live Nation, the Clear Channel Communications entertainment company. It was a $350 million transaction. Live Nation claims that the acquisition will not affect the opening of Houston’s House of Blues, which is set for the fall of 2007 in a new entertainment district near the convention center downtown....

Back in March, we told you about Arbitron’s new radio metering device, the Portable People Meter, and how Houston was going to be the first market to implement the device this summer. Those plans have been put on hold while Clear Channel, Arbitron’s largest client (duh!), waits to see proposals from other companies.

Arbitron has just released the latest ratings for Houston radio stations. Since their method of collecting data (written diaries by the few people who actually agree to take the time completing them) is ancient, the ratings reflect the listenership for Fall 2005. Here’s the top ten (based on listeners over the age of 12):
