Yeah, yeah, we know — Shelterporn has slacked off, and in recent weeks you've had to look for your own dream real estate listings. We're awfully sorry to have put such a burden on you and are making a Chinese New Year's resolution to be more regular. We'll do better at keeping up with Shelterporn, too. All of which brings us to the home we couldn't ignore: the Frame house, located off Memorial and......

• A fatal accident occurred this morning on Chimney Rock near Highway 90A. As of 7:30 A.M. the area around the accident has been cordoned off and traffic was being diverted. No further details are available as an investigation is under way. • Health officials are calling this latest round of the flu a "moderately severe epidemic." Flu cases are up 31% over last year and three children have already died as a result.......

It's an American tradition, just like representative democracy and childhood obesity: the Super Bowl. Even people who aren't football fans usually find a way to watch the game (or the commercials, depending on your priorities) and the die-hards view Sunday as some combination of Christmas, graduation, and the non-lame parts of the Olympics all rolled into one. If you don't have plans for the big game already, here are a few options around town: -......

Good morning, Houston. Weather got you down? Here's a fun story to lighten your mood: drunk astronauts. A report on astronaut mental health (undertaken after the infamous Lisa Nowak incident) revealed that NASA has sent astronauts into space totally sloshed. This happened in spite of the fact that they put a ban on alcohol consumption at least 12 hours before launch. Oops. We hope they're not too hard on the astronauts. After all, it's......

Hamilton, Houston's very own custom shirtmaker, was recently featured in an issue of Men's Vogue. Even if the article does make fun of their location "on a gaudy suburban strip a block beyond Kwik Kar Lube & Tune and across the street from a purveyor of erotic novelties" (on Richmond, near Chimney Rock), we were very excited to see Hamilton get some great press. Hamilton's shirts are impeccably designed and crafted, and are available only......

Houstonist remembers the point when gas went over $2 a gallon and oilman T. Boone Pickens said that was no big deal — what we should really worry about is when a gallon gets up to $3. And guess what? We're getting there. This week's AAA Texas gas-price survey reports that the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded in Texas is now $2.79 — an increase of 6.8 cents over last week. So......

So gas is really expensive, in case you hadn't noticed. But there is a bright spot, even if it is a little one: The price of a gallon did increase this week, but the increase wasn't as steep as last week's. Hey, when we're paying $2.40 a gallon, we take the good news where we can get it. According to AAA Texas, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded in Texas this week......

Houstonist has good news and bad news. Unfortunately, there's no "choose your own adventure" option when you're blogging, so we'll just give you the bad news first. All westbound lanes of I-10 will be closed this weekend from Washington Ave. to Campbell Rd. The northbound and southbound interchanges from 610 to I-10 W will also be closed. Fortunately, the closure only lasts from 9 pm tonight until 12 pm tomorrow, but motorists are strongly encouraged......

In the patchwork of land we call Houston, there is one tiny area that defies something that makes Houston...Houston: zoning. In 1990, St. George Place became the first of now twenty-two Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones, which was instated by petition to promote new economic growth into the area which needed a little boost. Soon after, City Council decided to enact zoning in the small area as well. St. George Place is located within "walking distance"......

There's some good news with regard to the price of gas this week: It has leveled off and looks like it'll stay relatively constant for a while, according to AAA Texas. Of course, it has leveled off at more than $2, which means you might have to take out a loan to fill up your car, but still — we take good news where we can get it. This week's AAA Texas gas survey showed......

Your chances of being caught running a red light just went up: The city's 10 newest red-light cameras go online today, bringing the total number of cams to 20 — not quite halfway to the city's goal of having 50 cameras up and running by early next year. The initial batch of cameras began operating Sept. 1, and since then they have caught more than 3,000 traffic violators, according to HPD: "They've proven what we......

We've been noticing gas prices falling in our neighborhood, and apparently that's part of the trend across the area: The AAA Texas weekly gas price survey shows the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Houston this week was $2.06, down 3.2 cents from last week and the lowest average price of any listed in Texas. We wouldn't call it cheap yet, but it's way better than paying nearly $3 a gallon, right?......

HPD Chief Harold Hurtt announced yesterday that 10 more red-light cameras are being installed around town, some of them on state-owned roads thanks to a ruling from Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. Hurtt said the cameras will begin operating in about a month at the East Freeway at Uvalde on the east side, FM 1960 at Tomball Parkway in northwest Houston and eight locations on the southwest side: the West Loop at Westheimer, the Southwest......

Where were you the day JFK was shot? When the statement was uttered "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind?" Where were you on Sept. 11, 2001? Houstonist remembers exactly where we were when the tragedy occurred: watching a television at work, amid of a handful of employees at an office downtown, wondering, "Is that a Die Hard movie?” But then we noticed the CNN logo in the corner of the screen......

Everybody get ready to brag to your out-of-town friends again: For the second week, Houston has the most expensive gasoline in the state. The weekly AAA Texas gas-price survey found the average cost of a gallon of unleaded in Houston went up 4 cents this week, to $2.93 a gallon. That's 8 cents more than the statewide average of $2.85, up about 5 cents over last week and 62 cents over last year's average. The......

So this long weekend is chock full of holidays: National Build a Scarecrow Day tomorrow, Visitation of the Virgin Mary Day on Sunday, Stay Out of the Sun Day on Monday and National Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day on Tuesday — not to mention that July is National Baked Beans Month. This time, the Southwest Freeway and the Katy Freeway are affected, so check the details and plan your weekend driving accordingly. • The Southwest Freeway is closed between the West Loop and Highway 288 until 5 a.m. Monday. Southbound traffic coming from downtown will have to exit onto 288; northbound traffic headed into town will have to exit to the......

The price of gas in Texas is up 10 cents this week, making Houstonist start to think that it might not be such a bad idea to start a private gas stockpile. According to the weekly AAA Texas gas price survey, the average cost of a gallon of self-serve gas in Texas is $2.83, the same as the national average. It's up 71 cents over this time last year. It's a 7-cent increase from last week, according to AAA Texas, but still a nickel below the national average of $2.39. As we at Houstonist started our day, the Buzz's Brother Rod was playing a crowd favorite "Drive Thru Sing-a-Long" during which courageous contestants festively sang "Deck the Halls," hoping an unknowing drive-thru attendant would chime in with the chorus. (We'll sing with you … fa la la la la, lala la la!) To our dismay, it took over an hour and countless attempts for someone to win this reindeer game. So where's the holiday spirit?......
