Daily-ist Tuesday: Beach House at the Orange Show

This weekend's wet, miserable weather led to a cancellation of The Orange Show's first event in it's Spring 2009 line-up, so tonight marks the de facto re-opening of the odd little museum and performance space just south of Downtown. If you're looking for something to do tonight besides fighting against crowds and plying yourself with pints of Guinness, then you might want to go listen to Beach House. The Orange Show's website describes the band:
Fronted by French chanteuse Victoria LeGrand and multi-instrumentalist Alex Scally, this Baltimore duo creates lush dreamy pop that recalls early Velvet Underground and Nico, but with a style all their own.
Pitchfork compares them to Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500, Spiritualized, and Slowdive. Houston musician Jana Hunter opens. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at the Orange Show's website. Beach House and Jana Hunter

Wilco’s Friday night show at Verizon Wireless Theater is sold out, but if you’re willing to pay a little, you can still get your hands on some tickets (believe us, it’s worth it). Finally, a great double-bill Monday night with Yo La Tengo opening for My Morning Jacket, also at Verizon. We're in concert heaven!

Just because there are no multi-million selling artists coming into town this week doesn't mean you should sit home. Actually, it's a great week to check out some quality local and regional artists. The Continental Club is hosting a killer Texas country/rock line-up Saturday night -- it includes Hayes Carll, Jesse Dayton and The Weary Boys. Also, Houston's Arthur Yoria is celebrating the release of his new CD at Rudyard's the same night. Other...
