Houston is considered the energy capital of the world. Now just in time for Earth Week, downtown businesses hope to make Houston an energy conservation capital by turning off their non-essential lights starting Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27.

on 04/18/2008

Yeah, I'm sorry but I lvied in Austin and Ithe Austinist was a great way to find out what was going on in that city every day... Houstinist does nothing but show me some news that is already super obvious and some random picture. I'm not trying to compare to two cities, just the two blogs. I Love Houston and it deserves a better 'ist.

I am not saying either infringes on my personal rights, simply that if we all have to pay for a municipal service, it's name should be politically neutral. It seems like local Republicans wouldn't much care for it to be named Clinton Intercontinental Airport. I am talking about a name we can all be proud of.

It took me 10+ years to realize that W. was going to obscure his father's name by having the worst presidency of all time, and literally give Houston a bad name.

on 04/06/2008

I guess Hobby infringes on your personal rights too? Maybe you should work on getting a little more Love Field in your life.

on 04/05/2008

To the previous commenter, IAH has been named that since 1997 - it took you 10+ years to complain?

on 04/05/2008

Our airport represents us. Why must it have a political name?

Why do our airports have politcal names, we all pay for them. When the airport was called Intercontinental Airport it was apolitical and a symbol of our international reach as a city. When I hear Bush I can only picture one man and he's not even the man that the airport is named after. Point is, if we pay for the airport, can't we have a democratic naming process? Can't we have an apolital name like Phoenix's Sky Harbor or Houston Intercontinental. It's bad waking up one day and finding your airport has been named politically and for the party you consider the competitor. It is even worse to imagine that our city's legacy will be somehow tied not to George HW Bush but to George W. Bush, who will not be viewed any more favorably than Nixon.

It would be some what better if the airport was Bush Intercontinental Airport (The First President Bush, Not His Wacky Son) or something like that. I know it would be hell for printing signs, marketing, business cards but it could give us some distinction between the two markedly different Presidents.

The Houston Chronicle article on sushi tuna perpetuates the old fear-mongering fish tale about mercury in seafood that has been repeated for years. It's the exact same story the New York Times ran in January that was rebuked by the Times own Public Editor for misleading its readers. And just like that article the Chronicle’s tale fails to mention one key part of the story; there has never been a single documented case of mercury toxicity found in this country from normal consumption of seafood. That's right, no Americans have ever been diagnosed with mercury toxicity from eating seafood by scientific studies found in pier reviewed medical journals. A key fact to have left out don’t you think? What else is the Chron not telling us?
