Cover your eyes, kids

It’s one of those “you’ve got to be kidding” stories. An elementary school teacher has been put on probation because she took her fifth grade students to an art museum, and guess what – they saw naked paintings and sculptures!

060829_bust.jpgThe school approved the field trip to the Dallas Museum of Art and parents signed-off on it, too. However, after the trip, some parents got word that their children saw nude artwork, and that’s when the trouble began. The parents complained to the school, so she was put on probation.

Now, we know that Dallas may be a little (ok, maybe more than a little) more conservative than Houston, but this is ridiculous. Looking at the museum’s website, we didn’t see any signs of a Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition, so we assume that the nudes were in classic paintings and sculptures. We’re sure the school’s library carries National Geographic – will those parents complain about the images there, too?

There may be more to the story. According to the school, the teacher’s troubles began long before the trip. Her contract expires in March.
